Whilst planing for the video that were going to chose, we really had to consider the different genres and styles of music that we could work with. We decided to make a list of popular musical genres and narrowed down our choices to ones that we could work with. These are some of the more typical genres of music that come to mind:
Blues
R&B
Folk
Hip Hop
Dance
House
Electro
Rock
Indie
Metal
The Song that we have chosen to work with is the kook's song called sway. This song would fall under the category of indie music. Our reasons for this choice is that unlike many of the other genres it could be easily synced with our film as the song seemed to be reasonably slow. It also had very meaningful lyrics that we could use when creating our narrative.
The starting shot is of a tennis net, a radio and a chair. Then in the middle right, red Chinese writing saying ‘Giving up the gun’ appears. A man in a black cape enters the shot from the left and turns on the radio. The shot cuts to an extreme close-up and the cameras tracking from left to right; there is an out of focus shot behind the net.
There is crosscutting between a bench, net and the man.
A woman appears wearing red, which makes her stand against the white room and background. A tracking shot is used as she enters the room.
The shot again then cuts to another scene where music equipment is set up and the band ‘Vampire weekend’ are walking towards it.
Using a white background there is a net set up in a room and a girl wearing red clothing which stands out walks in from the left onto it. The next camera shot is of a man and the camera slowly moves up his body starting from his feet to slowly reveal who he is. There is then a variety of close-ups between the man sitting on the chair who seems to be the referee, the girl and the man. The close-up on the man soon becomes a medium close-up as the camera moves further away as he hits the ball over the net. The shot then switches to where the band is playing, only for a second before returning back to the tennis match. There are then more close-ups of the band members and instruments such as the lead singers' face and the guitars. Throughout the video it shows the girl playing a mixture of different players ranging from two twin girls to a really tall woman and these clips are shown with trombone shots and shot-reverse shots. The camera then shows the band behind the girl playing. Then there are shots of the girl in red playing different shots following each shot as they fade in and out in slow motion which gives an affective effect. The camera then swaps facing the opposite side of the net where the bad are sen again this time with each band member fading in and out but in a fast motion. Her final opponent is a copy of her just in a different 'style'. Lil Wayne then appears as her coach to offer advice, they're comversation is shown at the bottom of the page in french. Towards the end of the video she improves, and hits what looks like a 'fireball' which indicates how powerfully she hit the shot. The video finishes with a close-up shot of the girl celebrating her victory.
Two door cinema club is a band made up of three members who have originated from Northern Ireland. They formed back in 2007 and they're genres of music include indie rock and electronic. This video is shown against a white background which enhances all the different coloured costumes, instruments etc. The video begins with a tracking shot of the dancers in the studio. The camera follows them as they begin dancing in time to the music, where there are close-up shots used. The first glimpse that the audience see of the band is from behind where they are seen on platforms and shot-reverse shots are used before you are able to see they're faces. When the lyrics begin there is a close-up of the main singer, he doesn't look at the camera so it gives a side view of his face. The camera angle changes to a shot of a woman standing to his side as if its her he's singing to. There are shot-reverse shots and also close-ups of the two as the lyrics are sung. There are medium close-ups of the group as the dancers perform around them. There is then a shot shown of two girls in a bubble bath in front of the platforms where the band are staged. The next shot switches to the lead singer walking through a crowd of women, to create this image a tracking shot is used. There are switches between close-ups and medium close-ups as this scene takes place. There is a side-angle shot of the band leaning against one side of a wall with dancers on the other, this shot is used so the audience can see what both the groups are doing at the same time, this angle also gives more of an unusual effect. There is then another shot-reverse shot between the previous side-angle shot and a medium close-up shot of the band leaning against three doors with the dancers shown in the gaps between. After this scene the previous white background become a black one, where the band are seen in an unusual multi-colored blurred effect. These effects are completely different from the atmosphere of the previous scenes in the video. Shot-reverse shots are again used swapping this black image for the previous white one. The white image returns as the video comes to an end and the band are seen walking towards the camera using another medium close-up. The video ends as the image becomes bronze and black and the camera moves off to the side.
The video begins with an extreme close-up of a music box and gradually fades out to reveal what it is. The scene then cuts to a trombone shot of two men, smartly dressed looking almost identical sitting on a sofa with a bright light shining on them. As the camera slowly moves in on them the lights turn off and a woman is lit up in the back behing them. The light hehind them begins to flicker on and off just before the lyrics begin. The two men then become in a close-ups
hot as they begin to sing. Then the shot skips to almost the same scene but of two different men, this time not so smartly dressed but again almost identical. In the background the woman isn't shown but instead there is a man. The shot again changes to the previous one and a shot-reverse shot takes place. The woman begins dancing in the background and the light continue to flicker. In between the shot changes there is a short scene which is more close-up of the woman but blurred, almost as if the audience aren't meant to see her face. There are also extreme close-ups of the music box which is gold and silver. After this scene the scene moves back to the first original scene of the first two men, apart from the woman isn't present instead there is another man who looks puzzled. After this there is another blurred extreme close-up shot of someone writing and a tea cup. The shot again cuts to a poole table where people are playing. There is then an extreme close-up of a badly wounded hand and a man lying on the floor.
There is then a a scene with lots of lights, glitter and tinsel surrounding one of the band members playing the guitar. This image changes as different band members replace each other including all the guitarists and the drums. The whole of the band are then shown up on a stage singing to a cround of people. The design is very old fashioned throughout the video. The camera slowly moves out onto the audience. Each band member is shown individually in a medium close-up outside surrounded by studio lights.
There is then a man sitting on the original sofa with the woman dancing behind him, the two first men are then seated back down with the lights flickering as the camera zooms in towards them. The second pair of men are then seen sitting on the sofa as the camera pulls out away from them.
